My “Go To” Meals

Writer's picture: MariaMaria

Last month I talked about routine and wanted to share some more on that!

I love cooking and baking! But with children, work and just life in general, I cannot cook a gourmet meal every night of the week. So, what do I do?

I have a list of my family’s favorite meals in my family cookbook- I check this out everytime I plan out the menu so we can have a little variety in our meals.

I make a menu out for every two weeks.

I go grocery shopping one time per week to buy all the things I need for the meals on the menu.

Each week when it is time to make my grocery list, I check my pantry for the ingredients of my “go to meals”— if we are out or running low I add it to my list. That way I have a back up dinner plan if my family or I don’t want what’s on the menu that night.

We keep dinners simple during the week.

Sometimes we go by this:

Crockpot / Instapot Mondays

Tacos Tuesdays

Spaghetti / Pasta Wednesdays

Grilling Thursdays

Leftovers or Eat Out Fridays

More intensive meals on Saturdays (since we usually have more time!)

This (above list) makes it super easy to meal plan and prep! A few moms at my parent project meeting said this is what they do and love it!! This also is great for consistency for your kiddos. If you tell them it is Tuesday then they know tacos for dinner!

**Again, that awareness and knowledge of the schedule and what is going to happen next is a great for your children- it reduces anxiety and improves their mental state.

Other times my family and I just go with the flow and choose what we are craving that night and cook that. Which this is easy to do because I had already meal planned and shopped for the week. So, I simply just open my fridge/pantry and cook!

My “go to” meals:

tacos

spaghetti

pesto chicken pasta

chicken alfredo

grilled chicken

burgers

chili

meatloaf

homemade pizzas

pot roast

What are your “go to” meals?
